What is the average I.Q.?What # denotes genius?

The question of where a genius resides on the scale is a based largely on the test administered and the professional opinion of the person administering the test. For instance the test administered by Mensa is on a 100% scale. For admission to Mensa you have to score in the 98%. That means you are in the top 2% of the world in intelligence. Other measures use the scale where 100 is considered average. On that scale 70 is generally considered severely retarted while 120 is only marginally above average. Any reference to IQ is purely subjective though because as you age your IQ will become lower while your actual intelligence maybe be greater than in your youth. IQ is considered a ratio of your mental age and your actual age. IQ tests are also cuturally and racially biased because the test can not take those factors into consideration. With all these factors and many others, most practioners in the field of pyschology feel IQ tests are mearly a tool rather than a benchmark and would be unprofessional to term someone a genius with an IQ of 144 with out also considering many other factors.
